Hertingfordbury Concert, St. Mary's Church, 25th March 2023
The Hertingfordbury Concert is becoming an annual event for the choir. Great to be back performing in this setting with great acoustics and a full audience! Oh, and the sandwiches and sausage rolls laid on for the choir at the interval are much appreciated! (See, join the choir and get free food!).
In this year's concert, following our tradition of giving a platform to young artists, we were joined by Saxophonist Lily Excell who is currently studying for her A
levels at Simon Balle School. Lily played 5 numbers that were really appreciated by everyone. Can we say, "Excellent"!
In addition, we were joined by some Ukrainian ladies, who have come to live here, as a result of the war in Ukraine. They performed as a folk group called Brave. We met these ladies when some of the choir performed at "Hertford Is My Home" event at Hertford Museum in February.
"Brave" told us “We sing so that our hearts feel connected to our
native land and for all the people to hear our beautiful Ukrainian songs. They carry all
the love and care.”
During the concert, the choir sung "Speed Your Journey" which has become an anthem of support for Ukraine during this time.
The Ukrainian National Anthem was also played in the concert.
